I have everything set up electronically so I only have to visit the grow once a month. I use my iPhone to check the surveillance cameras (to see the progress and watch out for vegetable eating hippies), I keep my lights on a timer, use hydroponics with a resoivour, and use this Etherdose Duo to dispense the nutrient at the correct rate.
