There are various types of plant mold. One of the most common is gray mold. This type of mold typically becomes problematic during periods of heavy rainfall and during cold temperatures and humid conditions. Gray mold appears on the leaves and flowers of plants that are dying. At first, the mold looks like water-soaked spot and then it turns into a fuzzy and sooty grayish-white coating or growth. It has the appearance of lint. It can be fatal, but if it is caught early it can be successfully treated.

Another common type of plant mold is called powdery mildew. A white powdery coating appears on the leaves of an infected plant. In several cases, it will appear on the stems and on the flowers as well. If the plant has become infected, the leaves will turn yellow, then brown and will eventually fall off. Powdery mildew is caused by low light, intense humidity and cool temperatures. This type of mold is not deadly, but it will weaken plants and slow their growth if it is not successfully treated.

Algae is another type of plant mold that is also very common. Algae is greenish in color and covers the top of plants and may infect other areas of the plant. It is not a deadly or particularly serious problem for plants, but it can be bothersome if it is not treated properly it will no longer be a concern. Algae is caused by too much light or moisture as well stagnant water.

There are various wilt diseases that affect many plants. One of the most common is Verticillium wilt, which affects many types of plants such as tomatoes, eggplant and pepper plants. It begins as small spots on the leaves of plants, which causes the leaves to turn yellow and curl. Eventually, veins appear and then leaves will begin to turn dark brown and wilt. A common cause of wilt disease is low moisture. This disease is preventable and can easily and safely treated.
